Poster Art Deco
Can someone help me with art deco?
For school ive got to do a page/poster with art deco on it! I’ve tried google and search sites like wikipedia but all i want to know is what it is and does it mean furniture rooms or something help! needs to be done soon clear answers wanted!
sorry if i sound needy or desperate its justmy friend tried explaning it to me and i didnt understand is it a room or like furniture?
please give all answers i dont mean to sound annoying but i no this and i want it in very simple words as im in year 7
Art Deco is a style of design and architecture that appeared during the early 20th century that represented the new modernity that was emerging at that time.
Buildings and objects designed in Art Deco are really blocky and plain, meant to impose the idea of strength, practicality, and sturdiness. Think of a slab of concrete – that’s pretty much the embodiment of Art Deco. This is because Art Deco designers believe that anything on a object that has no function (no practical use), like decoration and ornaments, shouldn’t be added to a design.
In fact, they want their designs to be as simple, plain, and straight-to-the point as possible. Adding a bow tie, some gold stars, or rainbow stripe pattern to something just to make it look “better” is idiotic and disgusting in the eyes of Art Deco. Art Deco designs and buildings are of simple shapes, made to look imposing but not flashy, something that stands not in its gold jewelry but in its strength and integrity. Again, a big rectangular block of concrete is the best example of Art Deco at work. The Chrysler Building in NYC is also a design of Art Deco influences. In fact, a lot of buildings constructed the World War eras can be consider Art Deco.
PS: Note the glass-and-steel skyscrapers (like the of our era should not be consider Art Deco. While most of them are of simple rectangular shapes, the glass and steel look is just too flimsy and fragile looking to impose the idea of strength and stability present in Art Deco. They are more in line with the Internationale style.
