Corny Italian artwork in restaurants?
This is going to be really hard to explain, but one thing that bugs me is cheesy, poor Italian artwork in restaurants or anywhere. For instance, a large picture of a sloppily painted wine glass or spaghetti in a bowl. I don’t get what the matter is with interior decorators now. It’s like they’re thinking “we could have cool abstract art or neat fine art such as a sunset/ocean, but no lets have huge sloppy pictures of wine glasses and spaghetti in the entire restaurant.”
Does anyone else know what I mean and what are your opinions on this? It’s like good art isn’t hip enough for fine dinning restaurants now LOL!
I don’t mind it in Italian restaurants that much, but it bugs me everywhere else.
economics, baby.
the restaurants that will pay me the market value of my work are (A) few and far between and (B) not likely to be in business for long since the profit margin for restaurants is tighter than a virgin flea. Some will offer to display work “for exposure” (give me a break) but there is only one I have that arrangement with because they are a fine, hot place and share the cost of insurance with my dealer.
I care a lot more about the quality of the food than the quality of the art.
