How could you possibly believe in and worship a god who…?
How could you possibly believe in and worship a god who loves humans and has the ability to stop bad things from happening to people, but for whatever reason chooses not to? It really baffles me. Have you looked at the pictures from Haiti? Just seeing a dozen pictures of the misery the people of Haiti is experiencing makes my heart burn. How can your god watch it all and not stop it? Even if your god does exist, he would be an evil god unworthy of worship. Andrew Palau survived a plane crash and thinks God saved him. Too bad your god didn’t save Haiti.
Warning! These pictures should make your heart burn and make you doubt the existence of your god:

Just because you can’t see or imagine a good reason why God might allow something to happen doesn’t mean there can’t be one. Again we see lurking with supposedly hard-nosed skepticism an enormous faith in one’s own cognitive faculties. If our minds can’t plumb the depths of the universe for good answer to suffering, well, then, there can’t by any! This is blind faith of higher order. The fallacy at the heart of this argument has been illustrated by the ‘no-see-ums’ illustration of Alvin Plantinga. If you look into your pup tent for a St. Bernard, and you don’t see one, it is reasonable to assume that there is no St. Bernard in your tent. But if you look into your pup tent for a ‘no-see-um,’ an extremely small insect with a bite out of all proportion to its size, and you don’t see any, it is not reasonable to assume they aren’t there. Because, after all, no one can see ‘em.
Many assume that if there were good reasons for the existence of evil, they would be accessible to our minds, more like St. Bernards than like no-see-ums, but why should that be the case? This argument against God doesn’t hold up, not only to logic but also experience. I’ve often spoken on the story of Joseph in Genesis. Joseph was an arrogant young man who was hated by his brothers. In their anger at him, they imprisoned him in a pit and then sold him into a life of slavery and misery in Egypt. Doubtless Joseph prayed to God to help him escape, but no help was forthcoming, and into slavery he went. Though he experienced years of bondage and misery, Joseph’s character can refined and strengthened by his trails. Eventually he rose up to become a prime minister of Egypt who saved thousands of lives and even his own family from starvation. If God had not allowed Joseph’s years of suffering, he would have been such a powerful agent for social justice and spiritual healing.
