How do country and western artists get paid?
am just wondering how popular country artists get their paychecks? Do they get paid by commission. or have regular paychecks or do they pick them up just like the rest of us after workday is over?

It depends.
For concerts, they are usually paid at the end of the day for the concert, based on what their contract says. Most artists get a guarantee (a minimum amount) plus a percentage of the “gate” (the number of tickets sold). They also get money off their t-shirt sales.
For album sales, they’re paid royalties quarterly. This is a contractual amount (usually 80c per album) paid by the record company. (A note about this, though: the artist first has to pay back the record company any advances for expenses incurred while making the album. It used to be that it took about 100,000 – 120,000 albums to break even with the record company…no telling how much it is now!)
If the artist writes songs, they are also paid quarterly based on sales, performances, and plays. That standard rate is 3c per unit (be it a performance, a sale, or airplay).
Payment for the band also depends. Some “bands” are hired session men who get union scale (most musicians belong to the Musicians Union), others get a pre-arranged amount. Other bands are equal partnerships where there’s a split based on how many members are in the band.
