Art Phono Preamp
Is it possible to use an rca phono preamp to connect a turntable directly to a pair of speakers?
Or do I need an amplifier as well? I found preamps with volume and gain controls like so: http://www.amazon.com/ART-Pre-II-Phono-Preamp/dp/B000AJR482/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1275866413&sr=1-2. Would that work directly between a turntable and speakers if I convert the speaker wires to male rca plugs?
No a preamp is not going to power speakers. It is just that a magnetic phono cartridge has very low output, so a preamp boosts it enough for input to an amplifier. It is possibly that it may work connected to amplified computer speakers.
