Why Emotional Healing Is So Difficult

People often have a hard time understanding what emotional healing really means. So often we suffer from emotional pain and we can end up believing it’s because of what we refer to as ‘bad’ emotions. And we’d feel better if we could figure out a way to stop feeling those bad emotions.

Unfortunately, this stands as the complete opposite of emotional healing. It’s actually what causes emotional pain to begin with. That’s because emotional pain comes from shutting off the flow of emotion.

It’s important to understand all emotions flow through the same pathway. As you try to block out the fear or the hurt or the anger, then you’ve just blocked the flow of all your feelings. Which means you just reduced the flow of what you want to feel – like happiness and joy and love and wonder.

It compares to a pipe that carries water. You’ve got the hot water in the same pipe as the cold water. Let’s say you don’t want to feel the hot water. It might burn you. So you start turning off the flow. But the cold and hot water both flow in the same pipe. So when you reduce the hot water, you’re also shutting down the cold water.

That’s the first problem.

Next, your heart wants to feel, but when you don’t let it, that creates the second problem. The function of your heart is to feel all your feelings. By restricting those feelings from coming into your heart, that also creates pain.

Why? Because when you have a longing for something you’re separate from, it creates pain. In this case, the pain comes from your heart being separated from your feelings, which it longs to feel. This will create pain.

The third problem concerns what happens to those unfelt feelings. They don’t just fly off into outer space. They don’t just dissolve into nothingness. Instead they stick around. They end up causing a lot of irritation and aggravation as they surround you.

The fourth problem is that a wall forms around your heart when you block the flow of your feelings. You end up using your own thoughts and feelings to close off your heart. Just like when you cut yourself. It’s the blood itself that forms the clot, to stop the flow of blood.

Only in this case, the clot, or wall, or barrier becomes the actual source of pain. It forms a little pain factory. So much of the emotional pain you experience actually comes from this wall. Because it consists of the thoughts and feelings you didn’t want to feel!

The misunderstanding of emotional healing comes from these four reasons. We believe we should cut off the flow of emotion even more so we can feel better, but that’s the actual source of the problem. The answer is to go the exact opposite route.

Open up your heart even more! Feel everything and anything that comes up. That’s where healing comes from. Or rather, that’s the overview. There’s still various other secrets and techniques you can use to help yourself. For example, a lot of what you feel isn’t real emotion. Instead, it’s a fabrication of artificial feelings and mental constructs.

Pain is created from these imaginary feelings. Healing emotional pain involves getting rid of those imaginary feelings so you can experience what’s real. That’s how you end emotional pain. That’s how you can start feeling what you want to feel.
